"We all have ability. The difference is how we use it." - Stevie Wonder
Welcome to Art, Ability and Us. A platform where the sensibilities of art meet the sensitivity and ethos of disability. Where art creates a visual and endearing medium to appreciate life seen through the eyes of those who are supposedly different from us. Yet, the more different things seem to be, the more they turn out to be the same.
Art, Ability and Us is a day-long experiential learning workshop conducted by the Centre for Disability Studies and Action at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in collaboration with some of the top artists in India. The workshop will be followed by a competition where the best thirty entries will be selected for the upcoming Kala Ghoda festival in 2012. The event aims to promote the cause of disability through the medium of art – a brush of colours can be quite powerful and transform attitudes in the way people perceive and conceive about disability.
The workshop will be held on 16th December 2011 from 9 AM to 5 PM. The highlight of the workshop will be an interaction with noted artists from across the country. Thereafter the participants will prepare art work in line with the declared theme and all entries shall be judged following which the prize distribution ceremony will take place in January 2012. The best thirty entries shall be displayed for exhibition at the Kala Ghoda Festival in February.
So come experience the joy of art and be a part of social change!
